What Is A Fluoride Treatment?

Fluoride treatments use a special liquid fluoride solution that helps repair and restore your teeth. Fluoride has the unique ability to “remineralize” and repair tooth enamel that has been affected by minor tooth decay. By applying fluoride directly to your teeth, Dr. Sandhu can strengthen them and prevent cavities from forming.

How Do Dental Sealants Work?

Dental sealants are made of a clear, transparent dental resin. This resin is applied to your teeth in liquid form, and is then hardened with a UV light. This creates a strong, transparent barrier that stops oral bacteria, acid, and food particles from contacting the enamel directly, which prevents cavities from ever forming. When properly applied and maintained with healthy oral hygiene habits, sealants can prevent cavities for up to 10 years.

Do I Need Periodontal Care?

Periodontal care is necessary if you’re suffering from gum disease. If you don’t maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing correctly and regularly, plaque and tartar will build up between your gums and teeth. Over time, this buildup advances to gingivitis and eventually more advanced stages of gum disease.

Periodontal care, such as a deep cleaning (also called scaling & root planing) is used to remove this plaque and bacteria from underneath your gums and restore your oral health. Catching gum disease early can prevent even more severe long-term issues. Scheduling an appointment now if you suspect that you may have gum disease.

What Can I Expect From My Teeth Cleaning & Oral Exam?

First, one of our hygienists will perform a brief oral exam. Then, they will use special dental tools to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. Once this process is complete, they will clean and polish your teeth with a high-powered toothbrush before flossing to remove any remaining debris.

Once your teeth are cleaned and polished, Dr. Sandhu will come in and perform an in-depth, comprehensive oral exam. He will check your mouth for signs of cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues. He may recommend x-rays if he suspects any underlying issues, or if you are a new patient. Then, he will discuss his findings and any necessary next steps with you after your exam is complete.

Do I Need An Oral Cancer Screening?

We perform oral cancer screenings on all of our patients during the process of a routine oral exam. It takes only a few extra minutes to do so, and getting regular oral cancer screenings helps give you peace of mind.

Dr. Sandhu will look for signs of oral cancer like lumps, bumps, lesions and discolored tissue. In the rare case that we find an issue that may demand further attention, we will refer you to an oral surgeon for a biopsy.
