Invisalign is an alternative to traditional metal braces. Rather than using rubber bands, wires and brackets that attach to your teeth, Invisalign uses a series of clear, invisible plastic aligners that look similar to a night guard or a retainer. Each set of aligners is intended to gently shift your teeth toward the proper position. By switching through a series of aligners, you can correct your smile and straighten your teeth without braces.
Invisalign is appropriate for most patients who have minor-to-moderate orthodontic problems like gaps in their smile, uneven teeth and crooked teeth. However, Invisalign treatment is not quite as versatile or powerful as treatment with traditional braces, so it may not be appropriate for patients with serious bite issues or extremely crooked teeth. To find out if you’re a good candidate, schedule a free consultation with Dr. Sandhu.
First, you’ll come in for a consultation with Dr. Sandhu and he will perform a comprehensive orthodontic exam to determine if Invisalign is right for you. If you’re approved, he will then take dental impressions and images of your teeth. Next, Dr. Sandhu will work closely with the Invisalign team to develop your personalized treatment plan.
When your first several sets of aligners arrive at our office, you’ll begin wearing them for 20-22 hours per day and you’ll swap sets about every 2 weeks. Every six weeks, you’ll come back to our office for a quick check-up and to get your next several sets of Invisalign aligners. This process will continue until your treatment is complete. Most patients require between 20-24 sets of aligners to correct their smile, so the average treatment time is under a year. However, every smile is different, so this timeline may vary depending on your personal orthodontic needs.
