Crowns are used to restore teeth that have been severely damaged by an oral injury, or damaged by an untreated cavity. Crowns are designed to completely cover up the affected tooth all the way down to the gum line. With a crown, you’ll be able to restore your smile and your bite quickly, and get back to your day-to-day routine without worrying about your damaged tooth.
At our office, we use CEREC (CEramic REConstruction) technology to provide you with crowns in just a single appointment. Traditional crowns require at least 2 appointments, usually over a period of about 2-3 weeks. This is because your crown must be made by an outside dental lab.
However, CEREC changes all of this. Using CEREC, Dr. Sandhu can quickly scan your tooth, create a computerized image, and build a dental crown. Then, the CEREC CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing) machine in our office will trim this crown out of a solid block of porcelain.
Thanks to this process, you can get a new crown in just a single 1-2 hour appointment, rather than visiting Riverside Tooth Co., twice over a span of several weeks. This makes your life more convenient, and ensures you can get the care you need on your schedule.
The process begins with a thorough teeth cleaning. Then, Dr. Sandhu will numb the treatment area, and begin trimming your tooth with a dental drill to remove enamel that’s damaged or decayed.
Once the tooth has been trimmed into the proper shape, he will use an advanced handheld 3D scanner to take a 3D image of your mouth, and upload it into a computer program. Using this program, Dr. Sandhu will design your crown. Then, the finished design is sent to a computerized milling machine, which sculpts it from a block of tooth-colored porcelain.
Finally, Dr. Sandhu will check the fit of the crown, and make any necessary final adjustments. After this, your crown will be bonded into place permanently, restoring your smile. Thanks to our advanced CEREC technology, the entire procedure usually takes 1-2 hours at Riverside Tooth Co.
